Why You Should Add Turmeric And Ginger To Your Juice Detox

Why You Should Add Turmeric And Ginger To Your Juice Detox

Although we all know that juice detoxes are marvellous for our bodily health, we’re allowed to admit that sometimes juices could do with a little punch of something exciting.

Cucumber, celery, and cabbage juice may be doing great things for our insides but let’s face it, they don’t make the fieriest of brews.

Enter: turmeric and ginger juice. These roots are guaranteed to add fireworks to your juicing experience.

Unmistakable in its deeply saturated sunshine colour, turmeric provides an earthy-tasting burst of yellow. Ginger gives us the fire: spicy, fibrous, our mouths are getting hot just thinking about it!

Perhaps more importantly, however, is the astounding health benefits of ginger and turmeric vitamins. Let’s take a look at the science behind these wonder roots, and why you should add them to your juice detox.

Ginger

Ginger

Where to begin? Well, ginger has been used medicinally - by people from India and China - for over 5000 years.

Here are just some of the ailments that ginger has been used to treat:

  • Swelling
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Inflammation
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Motion sickness
  • Morning sickness
  • Nausea associated with chemotherapy
  • Suppressing proliferation of cancer cells
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Respiratory illnesses
  • Symptoms of diabetes
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • The common cold

Increasingly, scientific studies are showing the power of ginger as an anti-inflammatory agent, anti-cancer agent, and antioxidant. What more reason could you need to add some to your juice detox?

Different Forms Of Ginger

We’ve been enjoying the bountiful health benefits of the ginger root for thousands of years, and humans have discovered copious ways to preserve the precious stuff.

Here are some of them:

  • Ground
  • Essential oil
  • Pickled
  • Dried
  • Crystallized
  • Powdered

Adding Ginger To Your Juice Detox

So, we’re assuming you’re convinced that adding ginger to your juice detox is the sensible thing to do.

How do you actually do it? Simple really. We recommend using fresh ginger alongside fresh turmeric to add maximum turmeric and ginger benefits and a punch to your juices.

Because it is so prolific, fresh ginger is generally very accessible from your average supermarket. Which makes this pretty easy for you!

Get a thumb-sized piece of ginger, give it a good scrub with some water (don’t remove the skin), and chuck it into your juicer. If your juicer isn’t too powerful, you might want to chop the ginger into smaller, more manageable pieces.

Turmeric

 Turmeric

Now onto turmeric. Over the years, scientific research has proven turmeric to be quite the source of medicinal benefits for the human body.

Here are some of the proven properties of turmeric:

  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antiseptic
  • Antimicrobial (protects against harmful microorganisms)
  • Hepatoprotective (protects damage against the liver)
  • Immunostimulant (promotes a healthy immune system)

Pretty impressive right? The active compound in turmeric that contributes to its magic is the polyphenol Curcumin. It’s this compound that gives turmeric its antioxidant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anticarcinogenic properties.

Anyway, long science words aside, turmeric is undeniably fantastic for your bodily health for myriad reasons. We can’t find any reason why you wouldn’t want to add turmeric and ginger juice to your detox!

A little tip:

Black pepper contains piperine: the bioactive compound that has been proven to aid the absorption of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) into the body.

So if you want to get the most of your newly found love of turmeric in your juice detox, add a little pinch of black pepper!

Forms Of Turmeric

  • Fresh turmeric root
  • Ground
  • Powdered
  • Turmeric extract

Adding Turmeric To Your Juice Detox

If you can find it, turmeric is best when it's grated fresh from the root with the skin on. Not too difficult to find these days in supermarkets, just give a nub of turmeric a wash in the sink and add it to your detox juice.

If you can only get hold of ground or powdered turmeric, add a teaspoon or so in your juice instead - you’ll still get mountains of healthy goodness from this addition to your juice.

Remember, add a little sprinkling of black pepper for maximum absorption of the magical benefits!
